The Lucy Senegal Journal Day 5

February 22, about 10:00 PM

It's all about the sweating in Senegal. You do it all the time and it's everywhere. When the weather is above 95 degrees everyday, it's hard not to.

Clinic was in full swing after a few bumps in the morning. We are using a kindergarden classroom for the clinic and the teacher was angry. He kept trying to teach the children to brush, but he didn't know how. He was one of those people that always frowns. We eventually shut down the teaching part altogether because he wasn't cooperating. He agreed to be quiet once we took his whole class in.

Jade was working in the pharmacy today, so I taught, with Mai interpreting. When applying fluoride was going slow, I jumped in and helped. You squeeze fluoride onto a piece of paper and stir it around with a small brush. Then you dry off the child's mouth with gauze and paint it on.

Afterwards, I played with Jade and the other children and was chased by a dog, played frisbee, did hand games, and just enjoyed the culture.

What took faith today:
*the heat

Kelly,

That's what Lyle thought too. Madeline said that this trip DID solidify in her mind what she wants to do as a career, but it's not dentistry.

Pediatric Medicine.

She'd be great.
