Family Planning

When I bought this lovely chart, the only planning I expected it to do was Family Home Evening planning--that night once a week where we get together, have a gospel-based lesson, play a game, and eat something unhealthy. No other type of planning was intended. Really. But have you noticed what has been glaringly obvious to each of my children?

An empty PEG! A missing tag! For goodness sake, who will give closing prayer? Our Family Home Evenings may never end! It's caused a bit of a panic.

Moving on. We decoupaged! I actually couldn't even think of the word. I went into the craft store and said, "You know how the Victorians used to cut out roses and stuff and kind of shellac it all to a dresser or something?....." I got a blank stare from the first person I talked to. She handed me off to someone who directed me to a whole decoupage section. Who knew?

Along with the glue (because really that's all it is), I bought a piece of scrapbook paper full of fun designs, some letter stickers, and different colored ribbons. We printed out pictures, cut out stars and flowers and decoupaged away.

Job well done. Now about that closing prayer......What to do? What to do?

I've just stumbled upon your blog, so this suggestion (or the reason why it's not a valid one) may have been covered in a previous post, but . . . you could always have another kid!

And then someday, when said kid is acting sort of twerpy, you could tell him, "Look, you're only here 'cuz we needed a closing prayer. Shape up or we'll get a neighbor to do it." :-)

How about for the Next Family Night, I will fly out and switch places with Lyle and do his job AND the closing prayer...and he can come here and build me a barn. :) Or a trellis. or put down new wood floors. Or bookshelves. :) Sounds good? No?

I love your decopage idea. You are so crafty Eileen. Our similar FHE chart just has wooden stars cut out and I used rub on initials. They were hard to find in the right size to no room for the full names. I am lame.

I think opening and closing prayer can be said by the same person. No need to go to extremes of having offspring just to fill the chart. Put one of the dogs names up there to fill it in if you don't like the hole. It's the hole that would bug me the most. Wow long comment eh?

So it's agreed, the...you are one kiddo short and Lyle is now 'off the hook' (pun intended) for FHE and the adoption fund-raising kicks off at Lisa's home and from there, moves to mine, where Lyle will build me something cool!!!

Excitement always leads to run-on sentences, eh?

Brooke,

I just read your profile and saw that you're from Bainbridge Island. I'm in Poulsbo, so you ARE my neighbor! I think I'll sign you up for prayer next!
